Hats

The hats worn by men depended on their social class. Men in the upper class wore top hats or homburg hats. The men in the middle class wore fedoras, bowler hats, or trilby hats. Lastly, the working class wore newsboy caps or flat caps.

Typical Everyday Outfits

In everyday life, men wore a variety of sport clothes. These sports clothes included sweaters and shorter trousers or knickers. The fact that men were wearing knickers made the overall appearance of the outfit more casual.

Along with these casual outfits, men also had to dress up. For daytime formal occasions, men had to wear a morning suit. Whereas for evening formal occasions,- they wore shorter tuxedos rather than a tail coat because the tail coat had become old fashioned.

The overall style of the men in the 1920s was less formal and more relaxed. In the 1920s, men wore shorter suit jackets in everyday life and wore longer jackets for more formal events. Men preferred shorter jackets to long jackets. Earlier in the decade, the trend was to wear high waisted jackets which were also worn with belts. With these jackets, men wore pants that were straight, shorter in length in order to show their socks, and cuffed at the bottoms.

By 1925 wider pants, known as Oxford bags, became very popular among men. Along with these pants, the suit jackets went back to being normal waist instead of high waisted. Under these suit jackets, men wore loose fitting sleeves. Lastly, by the late 1920s, a single breasted jacket that was worn over a double breasted vest became very trendy and popular.

Tuxedos

Tuxedos were very similar to the suits men wore in the 1920s. There were some differences though. Among those differences were that tuxedo ties were always black. Another difference is that when men wore tuxedos they did not wear top hats, instead they wore dome shaped hats called Bowlers.

Men could wear tuxedos to many different occasions. Some of these occasions were small dinner parties, attending a theater, having guests over, and going out to a restaurant.
